    Operation stage 4→5

Adding QA and Reporting to Your Print Workflow

Record acceptance checks alongside the job and review repeated failures.

    The essentials

A complete job record isn't complete without a QA result. Pass or fail, every job outcome should be tied to its log entry. Without it, you have timestamps and material data but no way to connect print failures to the specific settings, profiles, or conditions that produced them.

41.1% — FDM print failure rate in real-world environments — QA data captures why

26.3% — Failures from human error including slicer misconfiguration

    Who it is for

Operations running a fully adopted job log with consistent timestamps — ready to add formal quality sign-off and turn job data into monthly reporting.

    What this procedure resolves

At Level 4, the workflow is working. Jobs are logged. Timestamps are consistent. But QA isn't formally tied to the job record. Pass/fail is assessed verbally.

You can't answer: which material had the highest failure rate last month? Which operator's jobs are most frequently reprinted? The data is almost there — one additional field separates you from actionable answers.

    Follow the procedure

    1. 1.

Add a QA Result field to every job record

Two values only: PASS or FAIL. Log at job completion before handoff.

    2. 2.

      Add a Failure Reason field — short-form

Fixed set: Layer Adhesion, Warping, Nozzle Clog, Slicer Profile, File Error, Other. Standardised = filterable.

    3. 3.

Link slicer profile version to each job record

The profile used on a failed job is diagnostic data.

    4. 4.

Designate a QA sign-off step separate from the operator

The checker should not be the printer. Log the checker's name.

    5. 5.

Build a monthly uptime report from job data

Total scheduled hours, actual hours, downtime, failure rate. Four numbers in one row.

    6. 6.

Review the monthly report and act on one finding

Each month, identify the single highest-leverage finding and make one operational change.

    7. 7.

      Archive completed job records monthly

Keep the active queue clean. The archive is your permanent operational history.
